Let's be honest.....sometimes the most engaging images of your baby happen when it just, well, you and the baby! Not everyone has an expensive, state-of-the-art camera charged and ready to go at the exact moment your "little" decides to expressive themselves. Fortunately, with today's technology and smart phones with incredible resolution, creating the basis for an artistic painting has never been easier.
Serving as the inspiration of the final painting, I started with a simple cell phone capture of my beautiful grand baby staring back at me with tired, pre-nap eyes. More humorously, it was a screen shot during a FaceTime session with my daughter! (hence the smaller background scene in the left corner, haha.) As you can see, it does not take a lot of effort to capture these precious moments as long as you have something at the ready to photograph your subject.
However, if you want to be more intentional, which I highly recommend as a photographer, consider the following tips:
-
Get Down to Their Level:
- Get on the floor to capture the baby’s perspective. This makes the photos more intimate and engaging.
-
Focus on the Eyes:
- The eyes are the most expressive part of a baby’s face. Make sure they are in sharp focus.
-
Use Props Wisely:
- Use simple props that can engage the baby, like their favorite toys. Avoid cluttering the scene.
-
Be Ready for Candid Shots:
- Capture spontaneous moments. Babies are unpredictable, so keep the camera ready to shoot at all times.
-
Engage with the Baby:
- Use sounds, toys, and silly faces to grab the baby’s attention. This can result in natural smiles and giggles.
